Weaver, Simmons LLP is a full service law firm offering a complete range of professional services to clients throughout Northern Ontario. Litigation is the majority of the practice at the Firm, including civil (personal injury, insurance and defence), commercial, criminal and matrimonial. Throughout the term, the students traditionally work approximately 50 hours per week and will work with and accept files or tasks from most, if not all the lawyers in the Firm. When the opportunity allows for the hiring of 2 students, a modified rotation system is utilized during which we attempt to ensure we cover most areas of practice and most facets of responsibilities within each field which the Firm conducts. This includes drafting and preparation of a multitude of pleadings, applications and documentation, attendance at various Court/Administrative proceedings and procedures including Land Registry, as well as research and assistance with office functions. The same emphasis on the articling experience is sought when one articling student is available, however no period of rotation is employed. Resumes and grades should be submitted during the early part of spring, and interviews proceed through the spring and summer of each year, with the Firm remaining flexible as to start-up dates. We offer an extremely competitive salary throughout most of Ontario, and review it annually. Bar Admission Course (Phase III) expenses, as well as a portion of the student's salary are paid (or reimbursed after the fact, depending on sequencing of the Phases) during the Bar Admission Course Exams if the student is asked back and remains with the Firm. Future employment opportunities are strong for deserving individuals, and partnership is realistic within 3 to 5 years of employment. |
